Pycha object – from the series 7 Deadly Sins

The perversity of this work has several layers. It is painted on a banner advertising condoms. Upon careful observation, on the left side you can read the words “take care of your business”. It is a suggestion that in pursuit of self-interest, we may succumb to the dangerous, seductive – and as it turned out in the past – fatal power of symbols of power and strength. The sin of pride is choking on appearances of power and beauty, which often bring humiliation to others, but also one’s own fall. The banner is painted in a brutal and expressive way. Scythes turn into wings, and the use of a jagged circular saw as a laurel wreath enhances the sense of brutal aggression that tempts with its bestial power.

It was created in 2000 as the first of the Seven Deadly Sins Cycle. It was presented for the first time at the habilitation exhibition at the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts.

He took part as a mobil (on steel wheels from an old agricultural machine) in the opening performance of the renovated St. John in Gdańsk in 2011. A multimedia performance Temple of All Arts, staged by Robert Florczak. Robert Florczak received the Pomeranian Art Award in 2012 for the performance The Temple of All Arts and the performance The Triumph of Fire of Bodies and Machines.

Presented as a banner at Kunstraum Kieswerk in Weil am Rhein, Germany during the Kieswerk Open Air Festival in 2015

Presented as a mobile object at the exhibition “Robert Florczak Retrospective, Recycling, Remix” at the Sopot State Art Gallery in 2018.
