The artist says about his work:
“Pieta – the eternal motif of sacred paintings and sculptures, showing the scene of Our Lady’s sorrows over the dead body of the Son. This scene was shown in many different ways. The authors emphasized either the body of the dead Christ or focused on the mournful Mary. Of course, most often both characters are to the same degree objects that focus the artist’s attention. There were performances in a synthetic form (Antoni Rząsa) enhancing the dramatic expression. My “Pieta” proposal shows almost exclusively the body of Christ. Monumental, gigantic, divine, with a dramatically lowered head in a crown of thorns. This body is supported only by HANDS. These are HANDS of a being that we cannot see, HANDS are helpful, HANDS – a symbol. An ambiguous symbol, provoking reflection on suffering, support, mutual help ”.
