“Liar” belongs to the “Ecce Homo” sculptural cycle, in which objects – wooden figurations reach the sacred – primary, permanent, eternal and unchanging aspects of human existence. It is a contemporary tribute to tradition, emphasizing the importance and value of the legacy of the old masters – not allowing it to be forgotten. The sculpture was made of small, “basic” symbols. “Liar” hangs naked in a strange, mystical space, revealing his human nature from the front. He swears, promises and assures something with a sacral gesture. The mysticism of the situation is emphasized by the 24-carat gold placed in the place of the head, giving the impression that the character is talking about something extremely important. We don’t know her fully, we won’t look her in the face, yet it prompts us to trust. The structure on which the figure is suspended resembles an element of the church’s “glory” used to represent Christ or God the Father. Golden, soaring and delicate rays extending from the center, sanctifying a symbol or a figure, have been turned into steel, brutal, rusty rods directed towards the center of the composition, undermining the “holy truth”, for which the figure is guaranteed with its entire being. Looking at the “Liar” from the back, we see a gesture that unequivocally unmasks him.
